It really is a case of our bikes first, and daylight second. While other hire bikes are better suited to city conditions, or cycling around the vineyards, we select and equip all our bikes specifically for the range of conditions you’ll experience around the Remutaka Cycle Trail. Further, every single bike we hire out goes through a thorough inspection and service before every tour, so you know it’s safe, tuned, and Remutaka-ready.
All bike hires include helmets, lights, locks, repair kits, pannier bags and rear carrier racks, and we can also supply high-vis gear and all sorts of other accessories. All the extras are included free with any tour package, or can be added as an "extra" during the booking process if you’re just hiring bikes and going for it.
Mountain Bikes
To create the best bikes for the varied conditions you'll experience while riding the Remutaka Cycle Trail, we take a modern rugged mountain bike with front suspension, hydraulic brakes, and a 10 speed shimano drivetrain, then add gel seats, ergonomic handlebar grips, and other bits to make them comfortable and adjustable for long days in the saddle. After years of research and testing, we've found these to be the best overall fit for the Remutaka Cycle Trail and most of our clients.
Electric Bikes (eBikes)
Electric Bikes (or eBikes), can be a fantastic way to cover more ground in a shorter amount of time, keep up with faster friends, or just relax and enjoy the scenery a bit more.
With a choice of either a step-thru frame with our "Sinch Jaunt" or "Moustache" or a mountain bike frame with the “Merida ebig”, our fleet of eBikes have significantly larger batteries (and therefore range) than any other eBikes on the trail. These batteries are mounted on the frame of the bike, rather than on the rear carrier rack, which keeps the weight centred and as low as possible, making a huge difference in terms of handling and safety, and leaving the carrier rack free for your picnic lunches and cameras! Our bikes also have powerful and reliable motors (no dodgy conversion kits with us!) so you can have confidence in your equipment. Rugged and capable mountain bike components round out the package (genuine off-road 100mm travel forks and 9 or 10 speed Shimano drivetrains), along with gel seats and comfort grips, and 2.3” tyres. Our bikes are perfectly equipped to handle everything you'll experience along the Remutaka Cycle Trail.
