Your One Stop Shop for The Remutaka Cycle Trail
A great day out. Dave was friendly, helpful and made sure we had an awesome day. The trail is an easy ride, but the tunnels make it so much fun. The Summit Tunnel is a massive highlight! If you are considering a day out on the bike, do it with Dave!
Awesome! We did the 4-day Remutaka rail trail & Martinborough vineyard explorer (self guided) tour. Dave picked us up from our hotel in Wellington, and supplied us with excellent hybrid e-bikes (great suspension - highly appreciated), detailed maps, GPS (some parts of the trail have poor mobile reception), and later with excellent baguettes for a picnic lunch. I in particularly am not a confident cyclist, but with Dave’s advice, managed to complete the whole trail including the last section (the wild coast). Our bikes were envy of others on the trail. Dave even took care of the ferry fare back to Wellington from Days Bay. I would recommend Dave highly.
Just completed (well almost completed) the trail from Days Bay through to Wairarapa Lake and down to the Ocean Beach. What a great trip with excellent service from Dave at Cycle Remutaka. He went the extra yards when we got a bit stranded with rough and wild weather at Ocean beach, returning us to our vehicles in Days Bay and then showing us around to Pencarrow heads. Accommodation excellent and food all supplied.Top marks Dave and your team. Recommend this trip as one of the best multi day rides I have done in NZ.
Highly recommend. Great ride!! Dave picked us up at 9am and dropped us off at the starting point (25km) option. We were provided with very well maintained and tuned bikes, rear bikerack with bag (great for your belongings), helmet, gps tracker(safety), bottle of water, sandwich, this yummy bar and an apple. Dave gave us a debrief and a map.we stopped at the summit for lunch, and we’re so impressed with the sandwich!wife had a vegetarian one,it had the works (haloumi) yum. And the chicken sandwich was so good too thanks!! was not expecting to have such a good Sammy, much appreciated thanks. Dave was waiting to pick us up at the end too :) keep up the great work and thanks for the great day mate
Dave was amazing today. Picked me up from the end of the Remutaka Cycle Trail. My shuttle request was random. He went out his way to save the day. After 61 km and 76 the day before...i was gone but happy. Awesome business Dave.
Dave and crew are top-notch; everything from communication to gear to accommodation was awesome. We had a great time on the Remutaka Cycle Trail, loved our e-bikes. The B&Bs were comfortable, in beautiful locations and run by wonderful hosts. Our trip will be fondly remembered for a lifetime. Thanks for everything, Dave!
Fantastic day trip, cycling the fun trail from Kaitoke to Cross Creek then onto Martinborough for an overnight stay and winery visits before Dave picked us up for the shuttle ride back to our Wellington hotel. Everyone’s Adventure (Dave) was very helpful, knowledgeable, accommodating and flexible in helping us plan and enjoy our trip - thanks so much!! The wise women loved the E-Bikes - especially when the men on mountain bikes were battling into the strong headwind to Featherston!!
We hired bikes from Dave for our group of 8 heading out on the rail trail (two families). We organised our own accommodation and food but Dave was on hand if we needed any help - which we did! He was able to pick up some excess baggage the kids had packed (who knew it was completely necessary to bring 3 enormous tomes to read as well as Doc Martens!). Dave was able to manage the transfer as well as replace a broken derailer. We were then able to carry enough water and food for one of the more remote sections of the trail. I would highly recommend Dave and Everyone’s Adventure, either to do a fully supported ride, or just for hiring. You MUST also try the freshly made fruit ice-creams at Days Bay - a fantastic reward after many days cycling! A great ride for families (teens not little kids though).
Must Do if you are in Wellington! My husband and I did a self guided and fully supported 2 day 100 kilometer ebike ride this week with Dave who picked us up from our hotel in Wellington then drove us to the best starting point to ride 60k on peddle assist ebikes, transported our luggage, booked a fantastic nights stay, packed us lunches and water, outfitted us with a GPS tracking device so he could make sure all was well the whole time we were out and about while seeing truly the best of this area including kilometers of water, Mountain View’s, sheep grazing, so much variation in landscape I really have a sense of what greater Wellington is like and it was absolutely exciting and just enough of a ride each of the two days. Dave has every detail handled. We’ve done a few other self guided bike tours in the last few years- ages 53 and 57- this one was exceptional.
Fantastic Cycle Adventure. Well organised and well supported. Cruisey day 1 cycling by Hutt river. Spectacular Rail Trail Day 2 and Rugged coastal scenery Day 3 . Took one e-bike and one conventional mountain bike... both excellent quality. Great accommodation..first night spectacular views at home stay and second night rustic mini farm stay. Fab food. Highly recommended.
Our 3 day bike cycling tour with Dave Woulfe’s company was awesome. We biked from Petone to Upper Hutt on the first day on road and bike lane. The second was on the Remutaka Rail Trail through the forest. With the third and hardest day on Ocean Beach to Orongorongo with sand and gravel sections. The accommodation was outstanding both at Arorangi B&B and the Martinborough Hotel. We had booked the wine option side trip and enjoyed a pleasant evening at the Circus Cinema Restaurant Bar in Martinborough and my husband organised a 10am wine tasting at Ata Rangi one of New Zealand’s premier wineries. Dave was very accommodating, punctual and efficient. We are both in our late 50s with our 2 very fit 14 & 18 yr old sons and we found this trip had something for everyone.
Amazing. Three days of totally diverse cycling opportunities. Day 1 - Stunning views of the Hutt River, very enjoyable, hard work into the wind. Wonderful accommodation at the end of the trail. Day 2 - Another great day, many wonder vista’s through the valley’s and over the hills. We were very lucky to have good weather for this trip. Almost no wind. Day 3 - This first section went from easy to difficult & testing till about 1/2 way. From there it was smooth sailing. It was a total workout, for strength and nerves. Getting the bikes over land slips, scree banks and through fast moving water. A couple of gates also made for interesting bike transfers. I would highly recommend this trip but not after heavy rain. Dave for Everyone’s Adventure had us well covered with GPS tracker, food and accommodation. The bikes were in excellent condition and he ensured they were set correctly to our needs.
Awesome Experience. We did an all inclusive 3 day Remutaka Cycle Trail package with Cycle Remutaka - it was amazing. Each day was completely different - the first a cruisy ride up the Hutt River Valley, the second through the Remutaka’s on the rail trail and the third along the wild south coast. The accommodation was also first class. All we had to do was turn up - Dave organised everything else (literally!), bikes of course, GPS tracking, food and snacks for the day, water etc, it couldn’t have been easier. We opted to grab the ferry to Days Bay for the start which was a nice and scenic way to get going (Dave even organised the ferry fare) and extended the ride with the extra few kms from Orongorongo back to Days Bay which was definitely worthwhile. Highly recommended!
Unique and very worthwhile. Service was exactly as described. Bikes and lunch very satisfactory, Dave a lovely host. Wellington coast a real surprise to me, beautiful, remote and would do again on a sunny day, only aspect which was beyond Dave’s control! :-) Thoroughly recommended.
A group of four of us with average levels of fitness enjoyed a wonderful cycle ride over the Rimutaka Rail Trail on Saturday. I planned it earlier in the year, after contacting Dave at Everyone’s Adventure and I really appreciated his prompt responses and his ability to easily accommodate our groups’ particular requirements. Two of us hired e-bikes (one of us had never ridden an e-bike before) and two were on ordinary bikes. We chose to stay in Martinborough and made the easy trip to Featherston on Saturday morning to catch the train through to Maymorn (plenty of free parking at the station). The train trip through the tunnel only took 20 minutes and as arranged, Dave was there to meet us with our hire bikes. He gave us a good briefing and ensured one of the group had a GPS tracker attached. We were also provided with plenty of water bottles, first aid kit, puncture repair kit, lunch and snacks. Each bike had panniers to carry any of our gear. We all thoroughly enjoyed the trail which included tunnels, bridges and a variety of landscape along the way. We had our packed lunch at the summit and the leisurely journey took us approximately four hours. With the benefit of GPS, Dave knew exactly where we were at any time which was most reassuring and was there to meet us at Cross Creek as we finished. He then transported us back to Featherston train station, from where we were able to head back to our accommodation and out to dinner for the evening. This was a really enjoyable adventure which we had looked forward to for a long time and we highly recommend that you contact Dave at Everyone’s Adventure when organising your trip as his helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and professional manner will ensure easy planning and a wonderful time.
Great day out for our family of 4, including 2 teenagers - 14 and 16 years. Trail had good variety of terrain, views and features. Cycled easily from Kaitoke to Cross Creek car park and we only ever cycle when on holidays. Gusts of wind kept us on our toes. Excellent door to door service from Dave who was friendly and professional. Lunch was delicious. Highly recommended.
Great trip, enjoyed it a lot. Did a two day version of the trail loop - with first day from Petone to Featherston, and second day from Cross Creek down to the coast, then back to Petone again - long day, need to start early, but a good challenge. Bike was dropped around for us in Upper Hutt on request, and had all the gear needed, with panniers with good maps, GPS etc - happy with the service . Mountain bike was solid, no problems on a wide range of surfaces, trails, felt pretty confident in some fairly remote areas. Trail itself was very impressive, high points being going down the rail trail, and riding along the southern coast. Definitely recommend.
We were a group of 4 over 50’s out for some adventure with back up if required. Great support and encouragement from Dave. E bikes delivered to two after day 1. Terrific accommodation. Highly recommend. Sensational weather and views. We were even randomly visited by a seal along the beach at morning tea, not even at the seal colony.
We hired bikes from Dave for 3 days...they turned out to be better than our own ones so we were stoked! Gear was all supplied including detailed maps of each section which we often referred to along the way. Awesome ride - Thanks Dave!
I took my first e-bike ride on the RImutaka Rail Trail with Cycle Remutaka, and can recommend it highly! The bike was in tip-top shape and easy to operate. Dave gave us full instructions, provided all the cycle and safety gear, and picked us up and dropped us off in Wellington. A very friendly, personalised experience for a very reasonable price. Would definitely use their service again. Thanks!
We cycled from Cross Creek to Kaitoke for some geocaching. Dave was tremendously helpful & friendly in organising our journey, and shuttled us on the day. The bikes were in great nick (muddy when we finished!), shuttles were timely, and safety was taken seriously. A great way to see this trail (though the harder direction to cycle!)
We did the Highlights of Remutaka day trip. Both of the two 18km legs were stunning yet completely different. The Remutaka Rail Trail is interesting for its dense, lush green vegetation, river valley, gentle rise to the summit and old train tunnels which are fun to ride through with the headlights provided on the bikes. Then the Wild Coast Track is rugged and windswept with its grey shale runs, black beaches, green pastoral areas and gorgeous mountain backdrop. We were the only ones on that trail for pretty much the whole of a sunny Saturday afternoon. We are really grateful to Everyone’s Adventure for making the experience accessible to us with great communication, quality equipment and timely transfers. The detailed touches like gps tracking and signalling, first aid kit, repair tools and healthy delicious lunch were really appreciated. Dave knows a lot about the region, including the geography, history and people. The trips in the van were full of easy and informative conversation which added to our experience. A fantastic day out.
Dave picked up our group of 9 from the port at Wellington to shuttle us up to Maymorn (7 starters) and Kaitoke (2 starters) to commence our Rimutaka cycling experience. We were provided with excellent mountain bikes and e-bikes before setting off on our journey to Cross Creek. Each bike had a rear rack bag which included a delicious sandwich lunch, fruit, snacks and water. This was an adventurous cycle with tunnels, bridges, scenery - and a creek crossing in a strong wind tunnel! We all loved the experience immensely. As we had time to spare Dave took us to Kaitoke Forest Park to enjoy a beautiful walk in a Lord of the Rings filming location. Dave then shuttled us back to the port in time for our ship’s departure. A great day out and a big thankyou to Dave for the welcome surprise at the end of the cycle!
We’ve lived in Wellington for a decade, and wish that we’ve discovered this gem earlier! We’re of average fitness, by no means avid mountain bikers. The e-bikes really made a difference to our enjoyment on this 140km track. If you stay in (partially) catered accommodation, the bike loads aren’t an issue, it’s all very well balanced in the pannier bags. There’s a few short paths where it gets a bit technical, but it never felt dangerous - you can just push the bike if you’re uncomfortable. Great service from the Cycle Remutaka, very well described and illustrated maps, and the gear provided was top notch!
Hi Dave, we want to thank you for all your help with our Rimutaka cycling trip last week. We had an awesome three days on the trail and we will not hesitate to recommend you to others. The bikes were great, your tips for our itinerary were extremely helpful, and your service when we picked up and dropped off the bikes and when we gave you a call mid-trip was exceptional....and you didn’t make us feel stupid for getting a little lost! Thanks again
With four friends I recently rode the Remutaka Cycle Trail. For the Ocean Beach to Orongorongo section we arranged for Dave, from Cycle Rimutaka, to guide us and transport us back to our accommodation. I highly recommend his friendly professional service. It was two days before my 82nd birthday and his help made the ride so much easier for me.
Thanks for organising a half day ride on the Rimatuka Rail Trail for our family. Our guide, Dave, was awesome. He organised the bikes, the transport, and really looked out for my wife , 2 daughters and myself. He even had a plan to find our temporarily waylaid member (me) when I was 5 minutes late:) The bikes and gear were great, the track sweet as and the service hard to beat. We will be back for a multi day ride just as soon as we can.
We had such a great experience on the trail, thank you. We were flying down from Auckland so didn’t really know much about the area but Dave took the extra time to make sure we were well sorted. Overall I have to say the service was friendly and helpful, the bikes were excellent and the cycle trail was brilliant. We were even followed by a pod of dolphins for an hour on the last day! Thoroughly recommended, thank you again.
If you are apprehensive about the part of the Remutaka Track between Ocean Beach and Orongorongo you SHOULD hire Dave from Cycle Remutaka. We had been told this is quite a difficult part of the track, and not having mountain bikes we decided to hire Dave to guide us. He is such a lovely, patient young man to put up with us “older” folk. We would have had much difficulty if he had not helped us get our bikes (including panniers and one electric bike) through the sand and over the rocks. He was fantastic!
Many thanks to Dave for all his help and advice. He went out of his way to sort out all the logistics which not only made the ride possible but helped make it really enjoyable. The incline was the highlight with the coastal section being hard work in places but worth it for the scenery. Finishing at The Boat Shed in Days Bay then catching the ferry back to the city was the perfect end to the ride.
